Luke 15:11-12 And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. (underline mine)
This is a scriptural excerpt from the parable of the prodigal son. From this narrative we find out that the younger son came to his father to request for his inheritance. He wanted “the portion of goods that falleth” to him the bible states. It is interested to note that the son requested for the goods but the father divided unto them his living. I believe Jesus intentionally used the phrase “his living” because he wanted to make a point. He could have said that the man divided his goods to the sons but why did He use “his living”. Every word Christ uses has relevant significance and we need to find that out in the light of the Holy Spirit.
The father divided his living to the sons because it was through his livelihood that he has been able to amass the goods. The goods that he possessed were a product of his life. Without his “living” there will be no goods. Therefore by giving them his living he was giving them the goods. In the same manner believers need to understand that the only way you can receive the inheritance from the heavenly Father is to receive His life. Within His life is locked all the goods of your inheritance. The day you received the life of God by accepting Jesus as your Lord and savior, you also received your spiritual inheritance.
Ephesians 1:3
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ
You are blessed with all spiritual blessings when you receive Christ into your heart. Within the life of God is your inheritance. However for the spiritual inheritance to be material for you to use here on earth, you need to express the life of God. It is rather unfortunate that many believers are passionate for the goods yet have no desire to live the life. Your inheritance cannot materialize without living the life of God.
Ephesians 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
We have increased in the excellence of our religious display yet there is no genuine character transformation therefore we have not seen the manifestation of the blessings that God promise us. It is deception to think that God will bless you in your sinful lifestyle. Don’t assume you are going to get a partner from God whiles you are sleeping around. Don’t expect the blessings reserved for righteous people whiles you living sinfully. Don’t deceive your selves the Lord does not cast his pearls before swine (Mt 7:16). If you want his goods then you need to embrace His life and live it. If any one says they were blessed by the Lord and yet we don’t see the character of God expressed by them, they are in deception. The evidence that God has blessed someone is the righteous character that he exhibits. There is nothing wrong with you desiring the “goods” but first live the life of God then the blessings will follow.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Let us chase after righteous then the goods will chase and overtake you.
