So how do we become Sons of God?
The bible says “as many as receive Him to them He gave the power to become Sons of God” (John 1: 12)
You need to receive Him into your life which means you have to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and acknowledge His Lordship over your life then He will enable you to be your true self which is to be in the image of Jesus.
After that, we need to study the Word of God, the bible to enable us to reflect that image.
In the fairy tale, The Ugly Duckling, a little duck who does not look like the others grows up feeling rejected, unloved, mocked and demeaned. One day, from an appropriate fairly-tale distance, he spies a flock of swans which seem to him the most beautiful of God’s creatures. Looking into the mirror of the Lake, he discovers suddenly that he is a swan; he never was a duck. He joyfully joins the other swans who welcomed him to their group with love.
Likewise, the book of James 1:21-25 says,
“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
The above scripture is simply telling us that when we receive the Word of God, (Jesus Christ, the living word John 1) and we do what He says, we are not like a man beholding his natural face in a glass. When you look into the mirror, it gives you a reflection of your image and when you study the original meaning of the word natural in the context of this scripture, it means genesis which is the same word of our origin after the fall of man, remember Adam was created to be in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-28) and the image of God is Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29) but when he sinned against God he lost that image.
Thus, the scripture is saying when we look unto Jesus, the Living Word through the mirror of God’s word, by reading and fellowshipping daily and studying, our image begins to change to be like Jesus Christ because the word will confront us of our filthiness and anything fleshy tendency that does not glorify God, and we will then begin to radiate and shine like Jesus Christ.
After that is achieved, we will begin to see great things beginning to manifest in our lives- ideas, witty inventions, innovative concepts- our greatness will be birthed out naturally from our lives because being acquainted with God’s word and meditating on it to renew our minds will allow us to think like Christ Jesus, which will birth out everything we need to be successful and fulfilled in life. The swan in the story of the Ugly Duckling’s miserable life was suddenly transformed after having an awakening via looking in the reflection of the lake; we need to look into the mirror of God’s word and allow the Word to change us via intimacy with the Holy Spirit so we can radiate the beauty and glory of God in our lives.
Romans 8:13-17 States this truth beautifully,
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”
Why don’t you consider today giving your whole life to your Father? If you do not know Him, and would love to start this beautiful journey with Him, first of all recognize that you are a sinner and have fallen short of His glory and then receive His Son Jesus Christ, your Senior Brother who came to die on the cross to reconcile you to your Father as your savior and Lord in your life.
Simply say this prayer:
Father God,
I thank you for your love and my life.
I admit that I am a sinner and have fallen short of your glory but I am grateful for allowing Jesus to die for me. Please Lord Jesus forgive me of all my sins and come be Lord of my life. Wash my sins and cleanse me with your precious blood and write my name in the Lamb’s book of Life. Thank you for restoring my true identity to me again. Amen.
Now believe that you are now a true Son of God.
Just surrender your will and everything to Him and He will lead you to the path of life.
